Hello folks!
Today, I will speak about Abidjan, one of the main francophone's cities around the world. With more than 5 milion people, it is the largest city of the Ivorian region of Lagunes and of the Ivory Coast. Nevertheless, it is not the capital of this country, the capital is Yamoussoukro, but, it is considered the economic and the traditional capital (like Cape Town in South Africa or Sidney in Australia). The main part of the embassies in the country still in the city.
After the Civil War, the economy of the city is growing up quickly, because the international prices/demand of its productions (cocoa, wood and coffee) have been increased considerably. For this reason, Abidjan is being transformed in the last decade. The city is improving the industrial areas, routes, airport, port and railways and urbanizing the main part of the neighbourhoods. All these changes are done with the objective to do Abidjan, one of the powerful cities around Africa. This is very good for the economy of the city/country. Nowadays, its port is considered the main hub of West Africa.
Speaking again about the population, it is interesting to omment that during the last decades, it is receiving a lot of people coming from rural areas and third countries (Mali, Burkina Faso, Liberia, Ghana, Guinea, etc). For this reason, the governenment moved the capital (1983) to Yamoussoukro, with the objective to reduce the popultaion and create another important metropolis in the country.
Nowadays, in Abidjan, the City Hall estimates that 200,000 families need a home, for this reason, we can afirm that there is more demand than existing houses. The life expectancy is growing up and the mortality tax is decreasing. Nevertheless, it remains a lot of health problems, but, the future seems fine for this city, because, the problems are going to disappear.
That's all about Abidjan.
Take care!
