Hi Friends!!
Our trip to New York was the best trip we’ve ever done. We arrived there late at night and we took a taxi directly to the hotel.
New York is very big and multicultural city with great people. In New York you can hardly ever see the sky and the sun, it is full of skyscrapers!! We have spent our first three days (27th, 28th, 29th December) visiting everything in Manhattan. The weather these three days was cloudy and foggy.
The 27th, we saw the Liberty Statue from the harbour, but we didn’t take the boat to approach it. It was shocking to see the ground zero, it is like a huge hole surrounded by intact skyscrapers and lots of photos of people who died the 11S. Another curious thing is that the New York Stock Exchange has a small door at Wall Street, but the main door is at the parallel street (I don’t remember the mane of the street!). We were also at China Town where there are a lot of people trying to sell fakes of watches, perfumes, bags, etc. It was also curious to us that there was, at the street, in front of some restaurants a big table with some dishes that the restaurant offered so that you could see the size and the aspect of the dish before asking for it. We wanted to take photos of the Brooklyn Bridge at night, but it was impossible, it was too foggy that day and we could see nothing!! Fortunately, a few days later we could take these photos because that day wasn’t foggy.

The 28th, we saw the United States Post Office, the New York University, and the New York Public Library between other beautiful buildings and church (it is impossible to mention them all!). We walked through the Soho, the Noho, etc. and we finally arrived at the 5th Avenue. It was curious to notice that all the expensive shops (Louis Vuitton, Dior, Chanel, etc) are not at 5th Avenue as we thought, but at Madison Avenue!! That day we had lunch at Sbarro, where we ate delicious pizzas and pasta. When we were going to the United Nations building (the flags are only for the official events), we found some people claiming in favour of Palestine, and against Israel.

The 29th, we walked through Times Square, it is really amazing, and every building is full of huge neon signs and advertisings. We could see, at the ABC News building how they were recording a show and, later on, at NBC News we could see another one. We arrived at the Rockefeller Centre, and we could see the famous Christmas tree and the famous ice-skating rink with the big golden child, it is really beautiful!! We saw three flags that wished us “Happy Holidays” in many languages at a Cartier shop at Madison Avenue, and it surprised us that we could read “Bones Festes” in Catalan!! We also saw the Trump Tower, and we arrived to FAO Schwarz, a big and amazing toy shop where we became children, we wanted to buy everything!! We finally arrived to Central Park, a huge park that helps you to breathe better in New York. A curious thing we found at Central Park was a tree full of dog’s photos with the name and the age of the dog, we don’t know what that really meant. That day we also saw the CNN building and the place where The Late Show is recorded. But the most astonishing thing we saw that day was the Naked Cowboy, we didn’t know that man existed and when we saw a man in slips, with a cowboy hat and a guitar at the middle of Times Square we felt really astonished!! How can he manage to endure the cold weather?!

On December the 30th the weather had changed a lot; it was sunny but too cold!! We visited the Bronx, were we could see the Yankee Stadium between some other thinks, but we didn’t found it interesting at all. It shocked us that almost all the advertisements were first in Spanish, and then in English. Later that day we went to Harlem, where we spent a great day. It is said that Harlem is a dangerous place with lots of crime and delinquency but we didn’t found it dangerous at all, at the contrary! People there are great! One man offered his help to us when he saw we were looking at the map trying to find something, and a little later another man talked with us in a very sympathetic way; he told us he loved Barcelona and he had been studying Gaudi’s architecture. A little later, we stopped to have a rest at Columbia University. That day we were desperate to find a place to eat, but it was impossible, we were absolutely exhausted and we didn’t find a cheap place to eat. It was almost 15:00 when we found Europa Café where we ate a delicious and big salad with the ingredients we chose and some sandwiches.

On December the 31st, we went first to Brooklyn, where we saw some interesting and beautiful buildings and where we saw Manhattan and the Liberty Statue from the other side of the river. And then we went to Queens, an industrial and kind neighbourhood but without interesting things to visit. It started snowing a lot while we were there, it was funny!! Later we went again to Central Park to enjoy the snow, we were like children, but it was funny!! Everything was white!! We went shopping that afternoon. If you go shopping on New York, we recommend you to go to Macy’s, there you can find everything you can wish and it is not too much expensive. If you are a tourist you can ask for the discount card, and you will have an extra 11% discount on everything you buy for a month. You can also go to a shop called Abercrombie & Fitch, it is a bit expensive but it is great!! You must also visit Levi’s shop, we bought 3 pairs of jeans for 60$! That day we wanted to celebrate New Year’s at Times square, but it was impossible for us to go there. There were a lot of famous people, so the surveillance was extreme and at 22:00 they closed all the entries and we finally went to Central Park. We saw nothing of what was happening at Times square and it was too cold, so that it was a bit frustrating, but it was OK.

On January the 4th and the 5th, we visited the Empire State Building. It is really impressive to see the “small” city of New York from the top of that huge building, but it was great!! We went to the M&Ms shop, were we bought a big bag of delicious M&Ms. We also went to the Madison Square Garden to see the NBA match of New York Knicks versus Boston Celtics. It was a great show! The Knicks won (100-88). But the best thing was the atmosphere (the cheerleader, obviously), people didn’t stop cheering at their teams and the basketball players asked the people to cheer them, it was absolutely amazing.

To finish... if you have to take a taxi in New York, please, take the original yellow cab. The Lincoln limousines are a bit more expensive and the fee for the driver is extremely high.
So, if you need more experiences about this trip, or if you want to express your opinion, please leave a comment!! It’s free!!!!!!!
